Moving Your Dreams From Disappointment To Destiny

Scriptural Think Tank

Disappointment, as we embrace our prophetic creative destiny, is REAL. The enemy does not want us to hold on to our promises and one of the surest ways he wins is when we settle in the land of disappointment.

This is what the children of Israel did when the 10 spies came back with a fearful report about the giants and people who were living in their promised land. They backed down, they persuaded others to feel the same, and because of this not one of them (except Joshua and Caleb- who had a good report) made it into the Promised Land.

In the New Testament, we see Paul’s frustration over the believers living in doubt and fear, when they have all that they need because of Jesus’ sacrifice.

In Revelation, John writes to the churches warning them of duplicity in their devotion to Christ as well as not living purely for Him.

I wonder what he would say today to the church who has become so lukewarm and ineffective because of men and women in leadership who have not lived in a pure way and have impacted so many others to give up on the church.

I think he would say, God’s purposes and dreams for us are not contingent on what the enemy does or what a person decides, but rather, they are waiting for someone to take hold of, someone to cry out for, and someone to believe in.

Part 2 - Week 2

Take a moment and examine if you are living in the land of disappointment in any area of your life.

This means your relationship with God, yourself, and others. This includes prophetic words you’ve received, promises God has given you, and creative dreams and desires you have.

If you see any lack and you have become a settler in the land of disappointment, get out of that land by first acknowledging this before God, then repenting, and then moving out of there as quickly as possible.

How?

1. Feast on Past Testimonies – Remember when David was preparing to go up against Goliath, he remembered past testimonies of killing the lion and the bear who were trying to devour his sheep.

Take time now, and write down two testimonies where God has given you past victories in your life. I can remember when I wrote my book "Created To Overcome" and had to feast on the testimonies of writing my other two books to gain courage to go after my last one.

2. See the Miracle and Completion of the Dream- Whatever we focus on we draw to ourselves.

If I am focusing on what is NOT going well, I will draw more fear into my future, but if I focus on WHO I AM BECOMING AND GOD’S TRUTH about ME, I will move out of the land of disappointment and move towards my Promised Land.

I had to focus on my art and poetry devotional already DONE and as I did that, I was able to persevere until it was completed.

Take time and picture that creative dream or desire realized. Rehearse God’s promises to you, your prophetic words, and declare your future. “I will write that book, create that music, sell my art, find a spouse, be a speaker, etc..”

3. Choose JOY- Every time I dwell on defeat and lack, I lose joy. Joy is our empowerment and strength. The Bible says the Joy of the Lord is our strength. One of the surest ways for the enemy to have a foothold in our life is when we lose our joy.

Take time and I know it may be crazy, and just start to laugh like a child with your heavenly Father and release tension, fear, and anxiety.

Dance if you can and let the spirit of joy overtake you! Take your daily medicine each day. “Laughter is medicine to the soul.” The miracle starts to happen when we let go and joy and laughter is one of the surest ways that this happens.

4. Thankfulness Prepares the Way: The mind of Christ, as we see modeled in the gospels, is being thankful in all things. We see this over and over again in the epistles.

We need to be thankful IN all circumstance- not just when we see breakthroughs materialize, but BEFORE the breakthrough.

What are you thankful for NOW? Write it down and share it with someone today!

Let’s grow into the dreams we are meant to accomplish and rebuild our focus.
