God WANTS to HEAL You
Healing isn’t just something God does; it's a revelation of who He is.
From the Old Testament revelation of God as Jehovah Rapha to the healing ministry of Jesus and His commission to His followers, Scripture shows us God's heart to restore what has been broken (John 10:10).
As God’s child, you have been designed to know the nature of God and learn to PARTNER WITH HIM to bring healing to others…
Have you ever wondered what God is really like when you're hurting or someone you love is hurting or needs healing? What is he thinking?
When your heart is broken, your body is struggling, a relationship is fractured, or painful memories seem impossible to shake, or someone you love is sick—it's easy to focus on the wound or issue rather than the One who heals.
But from the very beginning, God has been revealing His nature as Healer.
In Exodus 15:26, God introduces Himself with a remarkable promise:
“For I am the LORD who heals you.” — Exodus 15:26
He doesn't simply say, “I can heal you.” He reveals healing as part of His identity. One of His names is Jehovah Rapha—the Lord who heals.
Throughout Scripture, we see God's heart to restore people physically, emotionally, spiritually, and relationally. Jesus didn't just preach about the Kingdom of God; He demonstrated it by touching the untouchable, restoring the brokenhearted, healing the sick, and bringing hope to those who had lost it.
And the interesting thing that sometimes we miss is that God never healed anyone the same way because He was creatively partnering with the Father on “how” to release healing or how the miraculous would manifest.
Think of it—the woman at the well was an outcast and yet, through a prophetic word, she realizes that Jesus is the Messiah and her whole Samaritan village comes to Jesus. I am so glad that God IS creative because I definitely don’t want to spit in someone’s eye who needs healing every time a person needs prayer for eye issues!
God's Nature Doesn't Change... And He Doesn't Lie
Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
So, what does that mean for us today? Could God want to work through our creativity, our prayers, our compassion, and our willingness to step into the messy places of people's lives to help bring healing?
ABSOLUTELY!
Defining God's Healing Nature Through What We See
I believe there are many people who have learned to “doubt” God’s power or nature to heal because of disappointment, circumstances that didn’t work out, and lack of understanding as to how God’s plans for good are not in our time frame.
So, when people don’t see the healing right away or when they see others suffering, they can assume that God is NOT good and that He is WITHOLDING FROM US. This is counter to God’s nature because He can’t HELP but be the healer—yet He never says HOW or WHEN He will heal us because it’s not up to us—so we are commanded to heal the sick in Jesus’ name not because it’s a formula, but because we are in a relationship with an eternal God who has our best and other’s best interests at the core of His Eternal plan.
Let's Laugh at That
Many of us feel may have felt like God is like those inquiry phone calls we have to make to sort out our bills, health care providers, or travel agents, where we are put on hold—ENDLESSLY, and where we are then transferred to the 50th department. Sometimes, I feel like pulling out my hair—but of course they couldn’t see or feel our pain—it’s all automated!
Yet, God is not like that—HE IS ALWAYS there when we need Him and His line is always available for us to use!
What DOES God See When You Turn to Him?
GOD DOESN'T JUST SEE THE WOUND—HE SEES THE PERSON
Jesus consistently demonstrated that healing was about more than fixing a physical problem. He saw people others overlooked. He restored dignity to those who had been rejected. He responded with compassion to those who were suffering.
In Matthew 9:36, Jesus looked at the crowds and was moved with compassion because they were weary and scattered.
Compassion is more than feeling sorry for someone. It's allowing God's love to move us toward people who are hurting.
Three Truths About God's Nature As Healer
1. God is compassionate toward those who suffer.
“When He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.” — Matthew 14:14 (NKJV)
Jesus didn't turn away from suffering. His compassion moved Him toward people. We are called to do the same and move with compassion to heal others who are sick or hurting inside.
2. God brings restoration to broken places.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3 (NKJV)
God cares about the wounds people carry inside, not just the struggles others can see. Creative expression can provide a meaningful way to explore emotions, process difficult experiences, and invite God into places that are hard to express in words
3. Jesus commissions His followers to minister healing.
In Luke 9:1–2, Jesus gave His disciples authority and sent them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God and heal the sick. In Matthew 10:8, He instructed them to heal the sick.
Healing ministry isn't reserved for a select few who have everything figured out. Jesus calls His followers to grow in faith, compassion, prayer, and obedience as they serve others.
We don't have to be perfect to begin learning how to partner with God. We do need humility, love, discernment, and a willingness to grow.
We owe the world an encounter to release God’s Healing Nature to others!
